Your ego is your enemy

Your ego is your enemy, and it keeps you warm in ignorance. Read this sentence again, I admit it's rather powerful, and I’ll explain myself.

I want to talk about the ego today because I remembered the story of a Master's student who came to see me one day in my office. A few years ago, I was the international manager of incoming students and short programs in English, and I also took care of mobility grants. This student had just been accepted for an Erasmus exchange program at Regent’s University London in England. Instead of being proud of himself and happy with this wonderful news, he was very anxious. I asked him why he wasn't happier about that. After a little while, he replied to me that he was ashamed to share with me his lack of English skills that he had with him since middle school which was eating away at him. His shortcoming concerned this grammar rule which consists of saying “isn’t it” at the end of a sentence.

He revealed to me that in 6th grade he was humiliated and mocked by his English teacher and his classmates because he couldn't understand this rule. Now as a Master’s student, he felt ashamed and even guilty for still not mastering this rule. And because of this, he lacked courage and never dared to ask his other English teachers or his close friends because he feared of being made fun of again. I took the time to explain this rule to him by giving him examples and then I asked him to give me some in return. As he left my office, he turned to me and said with a big smile on his face: “I feel as if a weight has just lifted off my body, I feel lighter and ready to go to London to continue my studies. "

I wanted to share this story with you today because if you have a question nagging at your mind, just ask it away. Put your ego aside and get to the point. It’s always better to say “I don’t know” rather than “yes, of course I know this, that…” when it’s absolutely not the case. As the writer Henry Miller rightly said: “Man has this choice: let the light in or keep the shutters closed.”

Don't let your ego lock you into ignorance. Remove your shield and leave shame, the gaze of others, judgement, guilt and fear on the ground to welcome freedom, lightness, courage, confidence, and self-esteem as well as kindness. You deserve to feel all these positive sensations and emotions in your body to shine even brighter.

If you too wish to free yourself from your ego, I will welcome you with kindness and without judgment for a sophrology or hypnosis session at the practice at 39 boulevard de Magenta – 75010 Paris.

Take your well-being seriously, you are the most important person in your life.

A tsunami of positive waves towards you.
