My Sophro Lunch Break

Updated: Apr 12, 2021

Covid-19 has transformed the world of work with telecommuting. It seems like, working remotely is considered to be very advantageous (shortened transport time, less waste of time, less early morning hours, etc.). However, inner balance and well-being can suffer from isolation and long days.

Therefore, it is important, given the isolation of each one, to arrange breaks: walking outside, drinking tea, listening to music… In short, doing a different activity in order to release the physical and emotional and mental tension.

Sophrology helps to prevent or avoid the overflow of negative emotions. It invites you to live a moment for yourself: it is based on controlled breathing (chest and abdominal breathing), muscles contraction (gentle movements of the body) and the visualization of positive images. It therefore allows you to substitute the negative with the positive while becoming aware of your body map here and now.

At home (but also at the office!), it is sometimes difficult to concentrate after lunch when you are in full digestion. To better start this new afternoon of working alone behind your computer, here's how to re-motivate yourself.

After lunch, practice the ball exercise, popularly known as the “number 2 head exercise”. It allows you to re-motivate yourself by observing your ability to concentrate.

• Sit comfortably in your chair or armchair with your back straight, your arms naturally relaxed on your thighs, your feet anchored to the ground. Close your eyes.

• Breathe in deeply through your nose and lean your head slightly backwards, blocking your breathing for a few moments.

• Imagine a ball rolling on a sloping ground. Give it the color you want. Observe the slow movement of this ball. Then breathe out through your mouth while bringing your head straight. Watch this ball slowly take its place, find its way without difficulty.

• Repeat this exercise twice, paying all your attention to the slow movement of this ball. Bring it back to where it was before your head moved, before that imbalance.

• Then perform the same movement 3 times, leaning your head forward: breathe in deeply through your nose and lean your head slightly forward, hold your breath for a few moments. Imagine this ball sliding across the slope. Breathe out through the mouth while bringing your head straight, and restore this ball to its initial place.

At the end of the exercise, you will feel focused again to effectively start this new afternoon of work.

Note that with "My Sophro Lunch Break" you will be entitled to a bonus because I will also make you live a visualization of positive images for maximum relaxation.
